A new book, Lepton Dipole Moments contains review articles on magnetic, electric and transition dipole moments that are written by leading experts in the field. This book covers the topics discussed in the series of symposia Lepton Moments , which I have organized and run in 2003, 2006, 2010 and 2014.


B. Lee Roberts - Research Interests:

  1. Muon (g-2):  I was co-spokesman with Vernon Hughes for E821 at the Brookhaven AGS. Spires lists 3945 citations to our physics papers on the muon anomalous magnetic moment from E821. We have moved the storage ring to Fermilab to improve the total error by at least a factor of 4, to 0.14 ppm. Fermilab E989, David Hertzog and Lee Roberts Co-Founders.

 

Past Research:

  1. MuLan:  The muon lifetime experiment at the Paul Scherrer Insitut.  We have recently published a 1 ppm measurment of the muon lifetime, and determined the weak coupling (Fermi) constant Gμ to ~0.5 ppm.

  2. The CPLEAR Experiment at CERN.  We used proton-antiproton annihilation to produce the strong eigenstates of the K0 meson at t = 0, and studied the CP-violating decays as a function of proper time (the technique later used at the B-factories with B-mesons).  We made the first direct observation of time-reversal violation by measuring the difference in the rates for the K0 K0 transition, and for its time reveresed reaction K0 K0

  3. Radiative kaon capture and Hyperon Decays - E811 at Brookhaven.  The radiative capture of a kaon at rest on a proton was measured to gain information on the structure of the  Λ(1405) resonance, which is below threshold in the K-p system. Also the weak radiative decays,  Λ n γ, and Σ+ p γ were studied.
